Large Scale Facilities

In addition we have long years of measurement experience at the neutron texture diffractometer SKAT in Dubna, Russia. Currently the new high-intensity diffractometer for texture and powder diffraction POWTEX at the Garching research reactor FRM-II is under construction by a collaboration between RWTH Aachen, Forschungszentrum Jülich and our group and will also be optimized for geoscientific applications.

Complementary we are also performing experiments at synchrotron sources throughout Europe.

Our Neutron Diffraction Sample Environments

  • in-situ deformation apparatus for continuous measurement the texture during uniaxial and triaxial (pressure gauge) deformation experiments to quantitatively evaluate the deformation mechanisms.
  • in-situ deformation apparatus for the simultaneous measurement of tensile stresses (youngs modulous, poisson ratio) and texture
  • in-situ recrystallisation furnace to quantitavely measure recrystallisation processes in 3D by orientation stereology (in cooperation with Helmut Klein, Crystallography Department, University of Göttingen)
